How Take-Home Whitening Works
When you call and schedule a consultation at our Moncton dental office, we will set you up for an evaluation with Dr. Matt Bradshaw to make sure you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. Most of our patients can bleach their teeth with no complications. We will discuss potential outcomes with you and take a before shade so that you can see your starting and finishing results.
Next, one of our team members will take impressions of your teeth so that we can create your custom whitening trays. When you pick them up, we will also supply enough whitening gel to get you started. Many patients see dramatic results after just a few whitening treatments.
Safety and Side Effects
Whitening is completely safe for most of our patients, and they experience very few side effects. The most common side effect is tooth sensitivity. If you experience sensitivity, take some time off in between your whitening treatments. At least a day or two in between should help to reduce or eliminate your symptoms.
Leaving your trays in for too long can also create problems with tooth sensitivity, especially to hot and cold beverages. If you experience extreme sensitivity, give us a call and we may be able to provide some solutions to help.
The other common side effect is sore gums, caused by overfilling your whitening trays. Putting just a tiny drop of whitening gel in your tray for each tooth will keep the gel from oozing out onto your gums and causing irritation.
