Professional Dental Cleanings

Professional dental cleanings may not seem like a big deal unless you miss a few and develop periodontal (gum) disease or get a cavity because of the plaque and bacteria on your teeth. Most patients don’t realize that no matter how diligent your home care routine, you simply cannot remove all of the plaque from your teeth without a professional cleaning.

Hygienists possess the skills and precision instruments to remove plaque from between your teeth and below your gumline, something that regular brushing and flossing cannot do.

Gentle, Thorough Dental Cleanings

Our hygienists know that in order to keep our patients coming back, they need to be gentle and provide great service. Because of their skills, they can remove the plaque and bacteria from your teeth, polish your teeth, and look for anything that Dr. Bradshaw should know about all during your regular hygiene appointment. Hygienists are often the first professionals on our team to notice that something is wrong. Whether you have the early symptoms of gum disease or a sensitive tooth, your hygienist will likely spot the problem during your appointment.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease

If your gums bleed or feel sore or sensitive, or if you experience tooth mobility, those are all signs of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is an infection in your gums due to plaque and bacteria buildup. In its early stages, we may be able to reverse it, but without treatment, it can progressively get worse.

Researchers discovered a link between certain systemic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, strokes, and periodontal disease. Treating it at the first sign of symptoms will support your overall health. When left untreated, periodontal disease can cause tooth loss, pain, and other serious health problems.

Regular Preventative Care

The best way to stay healthy is by maintaining your regular preventative treatments at Jones Lake Dental and by practicing proper home care techniques. Avoiding disease is much easier, less invasive, and less expensive than treating a condition. It is our goal to keep all of our patients healthy and disease free!

Your care frequency depends on a number of factors. While cleanings every six months work for many people, if you have periodontal disease, risk factors, or a lot of dentistry, you may benefit from more frequent visits. We can discuss your needs after you have an exam with Dr. Matt Bradshaw.

We also work with our patients to educate them on the best way to care for their teeth between visits.
